Melvin Burkhart the “Human Blockhead”

Melvin Burkhart spent 60 years on the carny circuit before he retired near Gibsonton. As 'The Anatomical Wonder,' he twisted his face into a frown on one-half and a smile on the other - plus he could turn his head nearly 180 degrees. He later called himself 'The Human Blockhead' when he started pounding spikes up his nose.'Because I didn't drink, smoke or cuss and was reliable and a good entertainer, I was in demand,' says Burkhart, who has played America's top venues, including Madison Square Garden and the Los Angeles Coliseum.
